AGING PROCESS Part 2

AGING PROCESS Part 2

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR BODY WHEN WE GET OLD?

As we get older, our hair turns grey, our face wrinkles, and our muscle mass and strength decline. We have difficulty doing our everyday work without feeling physically and mentally tired. Our cognitive functions and other organ functions decline; our immune system weakens, and we become prone to developing infections, chronic diseases, and cancers.

Aging is also associated with poverty, loneliness, and weakened memory—loss of independence and multiple psychological problems.

These signs and symptoms are external manifestations of aging. Real aging starts at the cellular level, with a gradual decline in intracellular organelle function. Therefore, studying aging in older adults and old animals after aging is established is too late to understand the aging process better and find a solution.

Aging is not a disease; it is a genetically preprogrammed, very complex, and unavoidable biological process. To study aging at the cellular level, we should study it alongside life itself.
